Beauty On Lockdown Week 11: What Does The Color Black Mean To Me?

KPB Society...

As an alumnus of FIDM, we were taught to study the infamous Sir Issac Newton color wheel theory which is the foundation for all the 12 basic colors calling them hues. So in fashion theory, the color black is an enhancement to any other color, Black is the only color that when added to any other color, begins to add depth or hue variation.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, violence act of racism is being displayed on the news daily against black people. My black hearts bleed as I watch white people of power continue blurred the lines of racial justice creating dangerous grey areas.

What do I see when I see black?

When I look in the mirror I see the absence of color.

When I look in the mirror, I see my black skin.

When I look in the mirror, I see the color black that represents elegance, sophistication, wealth, power, strength, and the new classic.

When I look in the mirror, I see a beautifully flawed black woman named Kahlua.
